About us

Our church is located in a small town nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains of western Pennsylvania. The church is 170 years old, which makes it one of the oldest churches in our town.

The story of Martin Luther Lutheran Church is to be read in the lives and memories of  men and woman who have been brought into contact with her during the past one hundred and fifty years.

The first congregation organized by Reverend C.C. Brandt of Pittsburgh PA in the year 1853. The prime object being to perpetuate the preaching of the unadulterated Word of God in the tongue of Martin Luther and the administration of the Sacraments according to Christ's institution.

The Congregation, however, needed a resident pastor, since Rev. Brandt could not be present every Sunday, so that the work could be carried on aggressively. Hence, it was decided to call a pastor who could devote his whole time to this parish.

About Lutheranism

Lutheranism is the largest and oldest Protestant denomination. It was developed by a Catholic Monk named Martin Luther. Martin Luther taught that salvation comes by the grace of God and faith in Christ alone, any the many rituals and works prescribed by the church were not only unnecessary but a stumbling block to salvation. He rejected such tradition as the intermediary role of priests, priestly celibacy, the Latin bible and liturgy, purgatory, and transubstantiation, and advocated for the scriptures to be available to the laity in their own language.

The Lutheran Faith

The Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit

“We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity: Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is all one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal”

The Inerrancy of the Bible: God’s eternal truth, without error or contradiction.

Faith Alone: By faith alone, through the word of the Gospel. We receive Christ’s forgiveness and salvation. No one, apart from Christ, can do this for me.

Divine Forgiveness: That though the work, death and resurrection of Christ for your sins- apart from any works of your own- you are forgiven before God.

Judgment: Jesus Christ is coming again to judge the living and the dead. Those who did not believe in Him will perish and those who did believe will live forever with God in heaven.

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”.  John 3:16
